Address from the school’s head :
Madam Wong Wei Choon
On 01-01-2010

It is with a great sense of pride that I stand here today to give my first Headmaster’s Speech for the year 2010. Welcome back to all the teachers , boys and girls and the board of staffs. As to the new teachers and pupils, I sincerely hope that you’ll feel as proud as me to be associated with a great school, a school with traditions and traditional values, commitment and teamwork spirit as well as excellence in achievement.

I consider myself very privileged to have been entrusted with the leadership of such a great school. Time is really flying and it’s turning the fourth year since my posting to this school. Though the school needs a bit of shake up at the initial stage, I’m delighted that there is a real buzz about the school at present.

For this year 2010, we’ll have about 1450 pupils, 70 teachers and 11 staffs in the school, and I think that it is a sign whereby we’ve to build up the school’s quality in the years to come. From the 40 classes open for the year, most of the classes are having an enrolment not acceding 40 pupils except the special gifted classes. I would like to reassure you that I have not arrived at SJK( C ) Foon Yew 2 with an agenda for change. This is a great school currently in fine form. We will continue to develop and improve because standing still is not an option, but my style will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. It is my good fortune as this school is build on the achievements of previous headmasters, the firm support from the PTA and the board of directors of Foon Yew Primary School whose hard work and leadership put SJK( C ) Foon Yew 2 in the position which it enjoys today. On top of all these, I would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all the teachers and staffs, who have been wisely assisted me to maintain all the good well of the school while perusing for higher goal.

My first important task for the current year is to furthering our programs which had successfully placed the school on the top list of SJK (C) in Johor Bahru District, that is with the GPS score as 1.75 last year and overall passing rate as 75.15%. This is a task which will continue throughout the year, and the strong and firm support from each and everyone in this school is of utmost important to bring forth this dream to reality. We are having 260 candidates sitting for the exam this year. I strongly believe that as we plan to succeed, we are sure to succeed in the end.

One of the reasons that we’d achieved is because of the excellent work of the PTA, it’s through their hard work over the years to foster the links between the school and the parents. We greatly value your role in our school and we hope that you will continue to support us over the coming years.

As you can see, we had carried a list of plans to upgrade the school’s facilities during the last holidays. We tried every effort and grabbed any opportunity available to make our school a paradise for our children. Firstly, we had shifted the school library to the ground floor in order to enhance the good habit of reading among our children in school. Thus from this year on, pupils can borrow books from the library daily. Secondly, the floor of Block C classrooms had been tiled, thus they are looking sparkling neat and tidy at present. And thirdly, A small amendment had been carried out in the office as well. We had set aside a more spacious room for Muslim teachers and staffs while enjoying their meals and upgrading the document room at the same time.

Foon Yew 2’s recent public exam results have been outstanding. We are proud of our 2009 UPSR candidates of whom 75 ( 22.73%) achieved 7A, 38 pupils achieved 6A1B, and 40 achieved 5A grades. Even more gratifying are those pupils who weren’t high fliers, but who by through our determination and inspirational teaching have gone on to achieve good grades in the exam. They are proof of the tremendous added value which our school education system gives.

Academic work is at the heart of what we do but it is certainly not the end. The skills learned and experience gained outside the classroom on games field, in concert hall & on the stage complement hugely what is going on in the classroom. And at Foon Yew 2, there is a wide range of ECA and many other areas of the wider curriculum.

Thus, my sincere appeal to all the teachers, staffs, pupils and parents of this school to render me your greatest support and cooperation in order to achieve my tasks in setting goals and delegating tasks, producing intellectual and material property for the school as well as Coordinating, mentoring and facilitate the activities planned for the year. With that, I am confident in leading the school in the wise pursuit of its objectives and highest priority tasks.

  1. Salam 1Malaysia,

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
